Renewing your SecureMark Certificate

It's time to renew your certificate for use with Online Government.  We have recently updated our renewal system to allow you to download a renewed certificate in a single session if none of your personal or business details have changed from the previous year.

What You Need To Do Complete The Renewal Process 

  1. Check you have the correct system requirements
    A list of system requirements is available on the next page as well as important links to software updates for Microsoft users.

  2. Check the expiry date of your existing certificate
    Check your certificate in Internet Explorer by clicking Tools in the menu bar and then Internet Options.  Click on the Content tab and then the Certificates button.  You will see your certificate under the Personal Tab.  The expiration date will be displayed. We recommend that you renew no later than nine days before your certificate expires.  If your certificate has expired, you will not be able to use the automatic renewal process.  Please contact our helpdesk on 0845 603 3000 or e-mail Securemark.uk@equifax.com.

  3. Check your certificate validity
    If it's been a while since you last used your certificate, you may wish to check your certificate's validity by  accessing the home page of the Government Gateway,  www.gateway.gov.uk, and log in using your certificate.  If you receive an error, contact our customer care  on 0845 603 3000 or email Securemark.uk@equifax.com.

  4. Check for changes in enrolment details
    If there are no significant changes in your details, you will be able to automatically download a renewed certificate. Significant changes include changing the name of the person, company or email held in the certificate.  Once your request has been submitted,  you will be able to import your renewed certificate.  Please remember to back up your certificate.  Instructions for this follow after you import your renewed certificate.  You will be sent a VAT receipt via email the day following your certificate renewal.

  5. Changing your certificate details
    If you do need to change your certificate details,  the online form provides you with the opportunity to do so.  Once you've updated your new details, our  customer care team will verify the new information and then complete your renewal request.  It may be necessary  for a customer care representative to contact you and clarify details in your application.  For your own protection, please request the order ID from the representative before providing any information.

  6. Use Your Certificate
    Once you've imported your certificate you're ready to use it!  We recommend that you check your renewed certificate on the government gateway, www.gateway.gov.uk.  Log in using your renewed certificate. If you receive an error, please contact us on 0845 603 300 or email Securemark.uk@equifax.com and provide the error details.  A customer care representative will be in contact with you within the next business day.
